ByGones - research tool
Bygones is a research note keeping program, that is NOT
designed to enter family data into "lineage linked" family groups and lines. Rather, it is meant to offer a way to record and keep research notes, that are often recorded BEFORE you've figured out how the information "fits" together in family groups and lines. Some may ask why I use Bygones to record research notes if I put all that info in my lineage linked database program. Some of the reasons are: 1) I don't record "negative" searches in my lineage linked database program, but I want to keep track of them. Bygones is the place I like to do that. 2) I also record information on people that I don't know if/how the fit into my family, in case I later figure out if/how they do fit. In that case, I usually don't immediately enter those people into my lineage linked program, but I want to keep the info somewhere--which I do in Bygones + my paper files. 3) I also use Bygones to keep information on correspondents, correspondence, & info on "my" localities that my lineage-linked genealogy program doesn't have a good place to record. So, Bygones is not a lineage linked genealogy program, and it doesn't try to replace them. Rather, it is meant to be used along with, and supplement a lineage linked genealogy program, to keep track of research notes and other information that are part of the initial research process.
